Contact UsWhen does a tooth need to be extracted?
While tooth extraction is never the first preference, sometimes a damaged or infected tooth can’t be restored with a filling, crown, or other restorative dental procedures. An extraction may be necessary to maintain good oral health and ease unwanted pain when that is the case. If you are experiencing tooth pain, tooth discoloration, or sensitivity to hot or cold sensations, you may need a tooth extraction.
Are dental extractions painful?
Before an extraction, our team will numb the treatment area to reduce any chances of discomfort. Once the treatment area is numb and you’re comfortable, the oral surgery will begin. In the case of wisdom tooth removal, our dentist will make an incision in the gum tissue to expose the tooth. The tooth will then be removed from the socket with special tools, and we will clean the site of the removal before stitches are inserted to promote healing.
How long does it take to recover from a tooth extraction?
It’s likely that you’ll experience some discomfort after oral surgery. To help reduce discomfort, swelling, or pain, our team will give you specific instructions on how to properly care for the extraction site. Keeping the area clean to prevent infection is most important during recovery. Generally, tooth removal recovery time is around three days but will vary based on extraction location and care.
